Fire and smoke
Smoke in a Small, Older House
A house of five or six rooms has few doors to slow smoke down. After a kitchen or heater fire, it settles on every ceiling, in the plaster and on the wood trim.
Old plaster and bare wood hold the smell longer than new drywall does, so a quick wipe-down rarely gets it out.
What we do
- Plywood over every opening the fire left, so nobody can walk into the house that night
- Soot comes off the plaster with dry methods before any water touches it, so the black film lifts instead of spreading
- The odor in the trim and framing reached with thermal fogging or hydroxyl machines. We do not use ozone.
We restore the house itself. Furniture, clothes and other belongings are not part of our work.
