Black mold
"Black Mold" Is a Color, Not a Diagnosis
When people say black mold, they usually mean Stachybotrys chartarum. The CDC describes it as a greenish-black mold that grows on materials like drywall, fiberboard and paper when they stay wet for a long time.
But plenty of other molds look black too, and you cannot tell them apart by eye. The good news: you do not have to. The CDC says it is not necessary to know the type of mold. Every kind gets removed the same careful way, which is how our mold remediation works.
So we skip the guessing and the lab fees, find the water that fed it and take it out. That is the same approach our Memphis team has used on water and mold since 1989.

FAQ
Black Mold FAQs
Have a question that is not listed here? Call us and talk to a real person on our Memphis team.
Does black mold cost more to remove?
No. Mold removal is priced by how much there is, where it is and what has to come out, not by color. Your free quote gives the real number.
Can you tell me if it is Stachybotrys?
Not by looking, and we do not send samples to a lab. The CDC says knowing the type is not needed to remove it. If a doctor or a legal matter needs lab results, an independent mold assessor can take samples.
Is it safe to sleep in a room with black mold?
A small spot is not an emergency for most people, but it is better to sleep elsewhere until it is removed, especially for anyone with asthma, allergies or a weak immune system.
Should I throw out things that had black mold on them?
Soft, porous items like cardboard, papers and mattresses with mold growing on them are usually not worth saving. Hard items like glass, metal and plastic can usually be cleaned.
Will an air purifier get rid of black mold?
No. A good air purifier can catch some spores floating in the room, but the mold keeps growing on the wet wall or floor it came from. The growth and the moisture have to be removed.
Why does black mold keep coming back in my shower?
The caulk and grout stay wet and the bathroom fan is not pulling the steam out. Clean or replace the caulk, run the fan during and after showers and check that it vents outside.
